Hot Pink Blood

Mia Vos

Hot Pink Blood is a Magazine that pairs my academic learnings and my personal experiences with creative exploration so as to illustrate the manner in which the patriarchy affects women’s self-regulation and self-representation.. Six editorials were produced exploring a variety of subjects: from the female and male gaze within photography through conversation with a fellow photographer, to the impacts of domestic violence on the home, the celebration of the range and magnitude of women’s emotions, the processing of the loss of childhood innocence, a self-portrait photo series and poem and shames innate presence within the coming of age of girls and women. ‘Hot Pink Blood’ is a snapshot of my current understanding and questions and an expression of vulnerability against harsh realities. Overall, my hope is that ‘Hot Pink Blood’ provokes thought and criticism of the patriarchy’s roots in our every aspect of existence.

Closing Statement

My experience within the Fashion Communications program at the School of Fashion has allowed me to evolve my creative and academic skills as well as develop new abilities and understandings. Throughout the program I have learned the intricacies of how fashion, style and design is embedded within the fabric of society and our lived experiences. Additionally, I’ve been greatly lucky to have met lovely and talented peers and be taught by amazing professors! I look forward to being able to take my learnings from the program into the future!
